Anthony Bean Community Theater & Acting School (ABCT) was established in the spring of 2000 to meet the demands of New Orleans, Louisiana area residents interested in learning and participating in dramatic art. , the center was New Orleans' only African-American community theater. Founder Anthony Bean established the theater and drama school with the goal of representing those who "have no voice". == Theater == The theater has presented numerous plays such as August Wilson's ''Joe Turner's Come and Gone'' and a stage version of Stephen King's ''Misery'' and an original musical called 'Simply Irma', starring, Irma Thomas among others. The company still continues to teach and perform despite the damage done to the New Orleans community by Hurricane Katrina in August 2005.
